10 Oh Brother Where Art Thou

Vintor quo Fortis

Morning light filtered in through the curtains, rousing Vintor from the most glorious dream. A grin plastered his face despite the list of problems that seemed to be growing by the minute. He didn’t know how he was going to find Ashtoret, Abby, and her father, if Brennan was still on their side considering Ashtoret’s antics. Hopefully when he did manage to reach them, they’d be able to contact Aculus in the main ship stationed on the moon. Undoubtedly Aculus would have a way to retrieve the cruiser the humans confiscated, he was very resourceful. And then maybe they could salvage the original mission to hide Earth from the Jurou Biljana. But all that paled next to the threat the humans posed to themselves. If Maya’s government managed to create this deadly virus from her research, then no amount of cloaking would help the planet. However, at the moment none of that mattered.

She loves me. My bonded loves me.

The image of Maya murmuring those words while lost in the throes of passion was a sight he’d carry with him all the days of his life. The way her kiss-swollen lips parted, her head thrown back as she gasped the sentiment was burned into his brain. He never fathomed she’d ever accept him with the way they met. And he never imagined his mate would be so damn hot. Now he understood why his friends lost their minds over their human mates. It wasn’t just her body with all its curves and erogenous zones, it was also her brazenness inside the bedroom and out. He was getting hard just thinking about her.

Vintor rolled over and reached out for Maya. His eyes snapped open when he found the spot beside him empty. His gaze shot to the open washroom door, but she wasn’t there. He was out of the bed in an instant, tugging aside the fabric on the window. He couldn’t see her outside their room either.

“Maya, what have you done?”

Her spot on the bed had grown cold, and her scent had faded in the room. She’d been gone for quite a while and he’d been so blissed out he hadn’t even stirred when she left.

“Son of a metcor,” he snarled, recalling the adamant way she insisted on going to her dwelling alone, fearing for his safety.

He’d just been ecstatic that Maya loved him, but it was that love that sent her running into danger without him.

“Damn bold humans.” Vintor paced the room, his fists clenched.

Every one of the human females he knew were too brave for their own good. They didn’t seem to realize or care how delicate they were, flinging themselves headlong into danger like a seasoned warrior. Maya was proving to be no different. It was bad enough when dealing with his friends, but she was his mate, the one thing bringing him hope when everything was stacked against him.

“Well don’t just stand here like an imbecile,” he growled at himself.
